Let’s Talk about Oak…

  • Rustic Grade

Includes natural splits, cracks and checks, as well as small to large knots.

Natural defects can be filled with a discreet black epoxy and sanded flush.

Rustic Grade is the most affordable grade of Oak.

  • Joinery Grade

Fewer natural defects, some small splits and knots may be present in this grade however they are more subtle and also more easily remedied.

The overall grain structure also tends to be more uniform with some interspersed natural figuring present.

This grade of Oak is less affordable than Character Grade.

  • Premium Grade

Very few if any defects are present in this grade.

Some very small knots may be present however for the most part this grade remains clear, with stunning grain, more prounced figuring and excellent uniformity in each piece.

This grade is the least affordable however it is also the highest quality.

Waney / LIve Edge Slab Furniture

As more and more people around the world become aware of the impact of commercial logging and the large scale felling of trees, we have seen that the use of large individual slabs has become an increasingly popular way for people to furnish their homes.

The natural look of solid slab furniture as well as the robust nature of wood means that you’ll be acquiring a truly one of a kind piece that will last through multiple generations, whilst simultaneously helping to reduce waste produced by saw mills when cutting every tree into straight square boards.

Alternative Materials

  • Steel

Both Stainless and Mild Steel are hard wearing materials that can be used in the manufacture of bespoke furniture.

Such uses include; Table bases and leg assemblies, unit/cabinet frames and fascias for display units.

  • Epoxy Resin

Epoxy Resin is a fantastic way to add the ‘WOW’ factor to a bespoke piece of furniture.

With thousands of colour combinations as well as effervescent pearlescent combinations, resin is a guaranteed way to put your unique stamp on your customized piece.

  • Glass

Tempered Glass has long been used in the furniture industry, mostly in the form of dining and coffee table tops.

What a lot of people don’t know is that the use of tempered glass need not be constrained to table tops, as technology advances we are now able to use glass for table legs and bases as well as cabinet doors and shelves.

Colours and Pigments

  • Hard Wax Oil Pigments

Available in all of the above colours, these pigments both colour and protect the wood they’re applied to.

All of the above colours are only available in a hard wax oil finish.

  • Solid Colour Stains

These solid colour stains provide a long lasting, natural and authentic colouring to the wood they’re applied to.

Available in all of the above colours, they can be finished in any of the clear top coats we offer.

  • Aging Stains

Aging stains are a great way to add a little bit of that rustic charm to any piece of wooden furniture.

These stains are available in all of the above tints and provide a classy and authentic aged look to the wood.

Clear finishes & Top coats

  • Lacquer

Lacquer is typically applied using a spray gun.

Once fully cured, lacquer leaves a thin hard finish on the surface of the piece.

    Scratch Resistance: 3 / 5

    Spill Resistance: 3 / 5

    Maintainability: 4 / 5

    Natural Look: 3,5 / 5

    Repairable at Home: No

    Sheen: Matte, Satin and Gloss.

  • Polyurethane

Polyurethane is an incredibly hard wearing finish, typically reserved for table tops and other high traffic areas

Once cured it forms a layer of tough, thin plastic on the surface of the piece.

    Scratch Resistance: 4 / 5

    Spill Resistance: 4 / 5

    Maintainability: 4/5

    Natural Look: 2.5 / 5

    Repairable at Home: No

    Sheen: Matte, Satin and Gloss.

  • Hard Wax Oil

Hard Wax Oil is a good all around finish for your custom furniture.

When applied to wood it forms a molecular bond with the fibers and once fully cured, it forms a tough, spill resistant layer.

    Scratch Resistance: 2.5 / 5

    Spill Resistance: 3.5 / 5

    Maintainability: 3.5 / 5

    Natural Look: 4.5 / 5

    Repairable at Home: Yes

    Sheen: Matte and Satin.

  • Danish Oil

Danish Oil is similar to Hard Wax Oil however the finish does not adhere to the woods fibers and therefore is not as hard wearing.

However due to its superior penetration, the overall finish and clarity is by far the best among finishes.

    Scratch Resistance: 1.5 / 5

    Spill Resistance: 2.5 / 5

    Maintainability: 3 / 5

    Natural Look: 5/5

    Repairable at Home: Yes

    Sheen: Matte and Satin.

  • Epoxy Resin

Resin Top Coats are a relatively new phenomenon.

It is achieved by pouring a thin layer of resin onto the surface that has been prepped for finishing.

Once fully cured the resin leaves a very hard, very durable layer of plastic on the surface that can be buffed to a mirror finish.

    Scratch Resistance: 4.5 / 5

    Spill Resistance: 5 / 5

    Maintainability: 4.5 / 5

    Natural Look: 1 / 5

    Repairable at Home: No

Sheen: Matte, Satin, Gloss and High Gloss.
